The Study Skills and Strategies Course provides the foundation for students to “learn how to learn”. In an engaging and experiential format, this course provides strategies to improve how a student performs as a learner.
Through self-assessment, goal-setting, and activities, students will learn the “why”, “what”, and “how” of the skills required to succeed in school.

The course is a 10-hour / 5-session course offered over a single week in the summer or 5 Sundays during the school year.
The course teaches the
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS for STUDY SUCCESS.
Mastering these skills will allow students to manage a rigorous curriculum with greater efficacy and efficiency.
This Study Skills and Strategy course is for all MS and HS students who want to learn to better plan, manage, organize, and complete their work. In this 10-hour course, we will explore the “process” of school as well as what causes friction in that process for each student. Skills covered include time management, organization, planning, actively studying, and note-taking.

Course Overview:
The Study Skills and Strategies Course is both interactive and engaging (Read why this matters).
Each 2-hour module will be complete with teaching, goal-setting as well as interacting with the material.
The course is broken down in to five (5) Modules*:
- Day 1: UNDERSTANDING THE LEARNING PROCESS
- Day 2: PLANNING, INITIATION AND TIME-MANAGEMENT
- Day 3: NOTE-TAKING AND PREPARING FOR TESTS
- Day 4: TEST-TAKING AND ERROR ANALYSIS
- Day 5:THE POWER OF GROWTH MINDSET
Day 1 Highlights:
On Day 1, we will explore the learning process and assess our individual areas of strength and potential growth. We will create process-based goals, and be introduced to the concept of Growth Mindset. We will explore the student role and responsibilities in learning and how we can begin to remove friction from that process. Students will learn how to prioritize study time within their busy schedules and learn best practices in creating a materials organizational system.

*The study skills course for 6th – 8th grades and 9th – 12 grades includes 3 free sessions in our Coached Homework Center to be used during the school year. Students are strongly encouraged to utilize these sessions to ensure they practice the skills learned in the course.
Benefits:
The Study Skills and Strategies Course will build greater self-awareness of how each student most effectively learns. Through learning how and where new strategies can reduce friction in the process of learning, students will become more efficient and will walk away more aware of the learning process and their role in it. Students will gain a better understanding of why active, spaced and continuous study matter, and most importantly, how they can remove any roadblocks that are getting in their way. By both learning and practicing their new skills, they will form new habits ensuring that these are skill that will be used throughout school and life. READ: What matters in a study skills course?


Parent Involvement:
Parents are invited to join their student for the final 30 minutes of Day Five where the instructor will review the highlights of the course and their student will share their self-assessment, goals and course curriculum. Students can share what they have learned and how they will take it home with them. We will also review how students can internalize and practice their new skills and strategies using the 3 sessions in the coached homework center.

Study skills courses are limited to 10 students.

$850 for the 5-session course (10 hours total)
+ 3 FREE Homework Center (HWC) Sessions (for 6-12th graders)*.
* If course is taken during the school year,
the free HWC sessions are good for 3 mos.
* If course is taken during the summer,
the free HWC sessions are good through Nov 30th of that year.
